Hiking with children in the Dolomites

Who is afraid of the “Olperl”? Of course no one! This cheeky mountain spirit is one of the most famous legendary figures in Sexten – and a fitting namesake for the family hiking trail Olperlsteig on the Helm. But there is much more to discover around Sexten. So put on your hiking boots – and off you go! The absolute Dolomites classic for families is the unique Fischleintal valley. The fable and fairy tale trail to the Waldkapelle or the Felsengeister adventure trail on the Rotwand also offer nature experiences – but with a touch of magic!
While parents learn interesting facts about Sexten and its history, children experience their own adventures: climbing over rocks and roots, watching lively squirrels at play, telling the time using the Sexten sundial, keeping an eye out for the “Olperl” and paying a visit to the infamous “Kneidlweibile”. Looking for the “Olperl”?
Children in Sexten grow up with stories about the mischievous mountain spirit “Olperl”. With a bit of luck, you might encounter him in his mountain adventure world on the Helm along an interactive circular trail suitable for pushchairs (1.5 km). Nature experiences such as observing animals, walking barefoot, climbing, splashing and enjoying the views make the route especially exciting.
